A 3D model of tibia was reconstructed using Mimics Materialise and Catia from CT-Scan images. Also, a 3D model of an especial knee prosthesis that is provided in “long stem” and “short stem” designs, were built in Catia. These models were assembled in ABAQUS in order to compare performance and effects of each prosthesis.
Results showed that long stem prostheses have greater Stress Shield Effect. Therefore, these prostheses may cause severe osteoporosis. CT-Scan data of other studies confirm this claim.
