Design & Implementation of A Scratching Nanolithography System
Two scratching nanolithography systems have been implemented based on Scanning Tunneling Lithography (STL) and Atomic Force Lithography (AFL).
The nanotips for this setup are fabricated via electrochemical etching method. To position the sample in the nanoscale, Nanomax 609-M is used, and to certify the correct
operation of the nanopositioner stage, different characterization systems (optical setup, Mach-Zehnder, and Michelson interferometric setups) have been implemented.
In STL setup, to measure the tunneling current between the nanotip and the sample,
an electrometer (Keithley 6517B) is used, and the feedback system, to control the position of the sample being scratched, is designed in MATLAB, which works
in a constatnt-current mode. In AFL setup, attaching the nanotip to a quartz tuning fork, it is oscillated in the resonance frequency of the fork.
Positioning the tip close to the sample, atomic forces change the frequency and the amplitude of the resonance, which is detectable using a lock-in amplifier SR530.
An online feedback system is built interfacing the lock-in amplifier with a computer to control the tip-sample distance.
