Summary:
Demonstrating the basic principles in the area of strength and mechanics of materials and structural analysis to the undergraduate students through a series of experiments is the objective of the strength of materials laboratory. Measuring the properties of the materials such as tensile strength, modulus of elasticity and shear modulus are conducted in the lab. This course is recommended for the 4th or 5th semester of the undergraduate civil engineering program at Isfahan University of Technology.

Experiments:
- Tensile Test: The aim of tensile test experiment of brittle and ductile metals is to discuses the basic concept of stress and strain. Experimental methods will be used to show the relationship between stress and strain and determine the mechanical properties for specific materials.
- Linear Strain Measurement: This experiment has been defined to study the strain measurements of a simply supported aluminum beam using strain gauges.
- Beam Tests (Part A): At the first part of this experiment, load case calibration and measuring the support reactions of two types of beam are seeking.
- Beam Tests (Part B): At the second part, some other subjects such as experimental verification of the bending equation of beams, measurement of the modulus of elasticity, and experimental verification of the Maxwell-Betti law are discussed.
- Torsion Test: Torsion tests aim to measure the shear modulus of a material. Although torsion testing is not common, it is a useful experiment and an important partner for tensile testing in determining the mechanical properties of a material.
- Buckling Test: The objectives of buckling test include determining critical buckling loads for columns with support, examination of the Euler theory of buckling, and investigating the influence of different material parameters.
