through hands on building and experimenting

A Little Background About Me

I was born in Italy but raised in Iran. As a child I was very clever and enquiring but also audacious and playful. So my grades were always high and my teachers loved me in the classroom, but in the school yard I was running around, braking stuff and infuriating school managers. It was in high school that I settled down and found an interest in science and engineering. A little after entrance to university I also started to work as a part-time employee for an industrial control and automation company and I had to maintain the delicate balance between work and study. Yet, after 4 semesters I was recognized as an exceptional student from the center of excellence at Amirkabir University of Technology and as a result, I was given the privilege to study 2 bachelor programs at the same time. So I decided to take on the Mechanical engineering program as it was near my original course of ocean engineering.
Finishing my bachelor level studies, I received admission for M.Sc. at Sharif University of Technology as the second highest scoring student at the national entrance exam known as Konkour with more than 10,000 applicants. If the bachelor studies were a lesson on how to manage time and responsibility following multiple objectives, the masters was all about experimentation and laboratory work. My masters’ thesis was on Vortex induced vibrations of an elastically mounted cylinder and converting this flow-induced motion to clean electrical energy. This included building 2 prototype energy convertors and a lot of manufacturing and laboratory work at the National Iranian Marine Laboratory (NIMALA).
Currently, I’m a Mechanical Engineer at Toolgostar industrial company, in charge of design and supervision on manufacturing of mechanical structures and machinery related to water and waste water treatment plants.

Academic Interests

- Experimental fluid dynamics and building test beds to investigate fluid-structure interaction especially vortex induced vibrations and its use in clean energy convertors. Drag reduction and flow control through passive and active boundary layer manipulation. Flow visualization and PIV data interpretation. Computational fluid dynamics and it’s validation by experimental data in order to generate novel and accurate modeling of fluid dynamics.
- Robotics and control with emphasize on exploiting sensor data from a complex, unstructured and changing environment to build robotic systems that are pervasive and intelligent. Autonomous drones and MAVs and their navigation. Machine learning and algorithms that enable drones and robotic vehicles to be adaptive and flexible. Multi-agent and swarms of robotic systems.
